For the second night in a row Serge Masse dominated the program at Fraser Downs with a training triple, which included a win in the featured $12,000 Open Pace
with Stiletto Hall.
In the main event of the night, Masse took Stiletto Hall straight to the front and never looked back. The seven-year-old Blissful Hall gelding, who was sent off as the 1-2 favourite, laid down panels of :28, :58.3 and 1:26.1 before sprinting home in :28.2 to win in 1:54.3.
Lilsharkshooter (Scott Knight) and Stormin Rustler (Brent Beelby) finished second and third.
Owned by the Don M JR Stables and the Don Byrne Stables 2008 Inc. of Edmonton, Alta., Stiletto Hall notched his 10th win in 19 starts this year earning $63,000. Since moving to B.C. from Alberta and joining Masse’s barn in March, the bay has recorded nine wins in 11 outings. Throughout his career, Stiletto Hall has visited the winner’s circle a total of 16 times good for $236,391.
Masse also won the first race with Angelic Star in wire-to-wire fashion. The three-year-old Four Starzzz Shark filly lowered her mark to 1:55.2 and improved her record to 4-4-0 in eight career starts. Masse’s Real Artist sophomore colt, Minnesota Hanover, posted an 18-1 upset in the fourth race in 1:57 for his second career win.
The resident of Surrey, B.C. has won 30 times this year and 1,723 in his career earning over $6.8 million in purses.
Masse also drove the winner of the ninth race, C Lec Naughty Lady (1:56.3), for trainer Edwin Lechner bringing his driving totals to 40 for the year and 2,433 in his career. He has banked $8.7 million in winnings while in the bike.
