Astronomical, with catch driver Kenny Arsenault in the bike, won his 2009 debut in a thrilling 1:54.2 in the Saturday night feature
event at the Charlottetown Driving Park Entertainment Centre. Outlawpositivcharg finished second and Ricaras Sun was third.
Astronomical fired off the gate to control the early fractions with Pans O Silver also leaving hard to sit in the pocket on the way to the opening quarter pole in :27.4. Outlawpositivcharg got away third but made a move on the way to the half which flashed up at :56.3.
Astronomical continued to roll to the third panel in 1:25.3 with pressure from Outlawpositivcharg and Riccaras Sun coming from the backfield. As the field turned for home, Astronomical sprinted to a :29.1 final quarter to seal the victory.
The seven-year-old son of Astreos – Hey Girl won for the 36th time in his career and pushed his lifetime earnings to $756,358 for the partnership of trainer Dr. Ian Moore, William Shearer and R G McGroup Ltd.
