Hollywood Jess pulled off the mild upset in Monday’s feature at Saratoga Casino Hotel as the Dave Dewhurst trainee parlayed her pocket ride to a 1:59.3 victory.
Hollywood Jess, a daughter of Conway Hall, was dismissed at odds of 8-1 but wound up getting the perfect trip in Monday’s $9,950 feature for New York-sired trotters. The race’s front-runner Stoneridge (Jim Devaux) was pressured every step of the way and once Hollywood Jess found racing room in the passing lane, the four-year-old mare trotted right by to record her first win on the 2016 campaign. Luck Of Macrea (Frank Coppola, Jr.) came on for second, while Stoneridge held on to finish third.
Hollywood Jess was piloted to victory on the Memorial Day matinee card by Hall of Famer Wally Hennessey.
Live racing resumes on Thursday afternoon at Saratoga with first post time set for 4:00 p.m.
