Trainer/driver J.F. Gagne came out all guns a blazing at Alberta Downs on Sunday afternoon, winning three of the first five races on the 11-race program
.
Gagne got the ball rolling with Western Bee, who won for the second time in as many tries in Sunday’s second race. The three-year-old daughter of As Promised, who was a 1:58.3 in last week’s debut, clicked for a career-best clocking of 1:58 following a pocket trip. She is owned by Ringneck Enterprises Ltd. of Calgary, AB.
Gagne returned to victory lane in the very next race with Allbouttaj, who picked up his first win of the season after failing to score in his first eight starts of the year. The four-year-old son of Tajma Hall, a horse that is very near and dear to the heart of Gagne, capitalized on a two-hole trip en route to posting the career-best clocking of 1:57. The three-time winner is homebred owned by Gagne and partner Peter Van Seggelen.
Another son of Tajma Hall, Tajtoo, completed Gagne’s hat-trick thanks to his 1:56.1 triumph in the fifth race. The five-year-old laid down most of the speed en route to notching his second win of the season. He has put together a 2-2-2 record in his first nine starts of the season for Gagne and partner Peter Van Seggelen of De Winton, AB.
