Cheap N Easy, despite being off 28 days and a sick scratch intervening, won her sixth straight race Monday night at The Downs at Mohegan Sun Pocono, taking the pacing mares section of the twin $14,000 claiming handicap events.
Cheap N Easy sat third-inside while Timmylynn set the pace and Unbeamlieveable raced behind her, then angled wide before mid-stretch and just caught the pacesetter in the last 50 feet, winning by a neck in 1:53.4, with Unbeamlieveable third.
Trainer Gilbert Garcia-Herrera had the mare fit despite the time away for his son, owner Gilbert Garcia-Owen, and driver George Napolitano, Jr., notching his seventh winner of the day (five at Philly and two here), forsook the Cams Card Shark’s mare usual front-stepping ways and raced her more conservatively off the missed time, with the easier trip producing yet another triumph and raising her lifetime money card to $350,861.
Windsongmusclelady never had an anxious moment while taking a new mark of 1:55 in the companion feature. Driver Matt Kakaley just kept feeding the victorious daughter of Muscle Mass more racetrack on the engine, and the mare had no problems in winning by four lengths for trainer Richard Johnson and the ownership of Joseph Bongiorno LLC and Jennifer Bongiorno.
