
Post seven was no problem for Emma Town Bud as he won his second straight $10,000 Preferred Handicap Trot on Wednesday evening, May 28 at Rideau Carleton Raceway.
Trainer Pierre Bovay was holding the lines as they took the outside in the featured class. As the car drew away, Impressive Dude (Guy Gagnon) sprung ahead to capture the early lead, followed by Tyrone Bow Tie (Ryan Guy) in second and Emma Town Bud in third. Impressive Dude led the field through the quarter in :28, half in :58.2 and three-quarters in 1:26.4.
En route to the third quarter pole, Emma Town Bud popped from third position. Tyrone Bow Tie faced a miscue and the battle towards the wire was left between Impressive Dude and Emma Town Bud. With a swift :28.4 final panel backing him, Emma Town Bud went on to win by 1-3/4 lengths in 1:56. Impressive Dude had to settle for second and Raising Rusty (Stephane Pouliot) completed the ticket for show.
Emma Town Bud (Big Stick Lindy-Centerfold Lady) is an eight-year-old gelding owned by Nicole Bovay Gurtner of Applehill, Ont. She won her fourth race of the year from 10 starts, second straight in the Preferred, and won her 25th career race from 93 starts. She boasts $384,007 in career earnings. Off at 4-1 odds, she paid $9.10 to win.
Ciel Bleu (Muscle Mass-Volontee) and trainer/driver Guy Gagnon teamed up once again for their fifth straight win in the $7,800 conditioned claiming trot, a mile clocked in 1:55.4. The seven-year-old gelding won his sixth race of the season from 14 starts and his 24th race from 91 career starts, now displaying a $149,177 career bankroll. He is owned by Ecuries Guy Gagnon Inc. of Gatineau, Que., and Gestion Louis Latulippe Inc. of St Ferreol Les Neiges, Que. He paid $5.30 to win.
