Live harness racing made its return to Dresden Raceway in front of a busy crowd on a beautiful Sunday afternoon (May 28).

The first race of the season was taken by Telling The Story and Preston Shaw, who went wire to wire in the co-featured $5,000 Preferred 3 Trot, stopping the clock in 2:00. The five-year-old daughter of Full Count carved a clip of :29.2, 1:00.2 and 1:31 to land a 7-3/4-length victory over Jooner, who overtook pocket-sitter Ajtitan for second. Patricia Gibb owns the winning mare, who paid $3.60 to win.

The featured event of the afternoon was the $5,000 Preferred 3 Pace and it was won by Sea Change N in 1:56.4 with Dan Clements in the sulky. The eight-year-old daughter of Somebeachsomewhere faced some pressure on the outside by Kenny Joe past the half, but found another gear down the stretch to win. Jason Libby trains the $5 winner for owner Lorrie Keeling.

For the eight-race card, there was a total of $44,171 wagered on opening day. Live racing is back next Sunday (June 4) with the first leg of the Mark Austin Pacing Series.
