Woodbine Mohawk Park played host to a compact, five-race qualifying session on Monday morning (May 28). A total of 35 charges put their noses on the starting gate, one of which was a $260,000 yearling purchase that is prepping for his three-year-old campaign.

Dramatic Point started from Post 6 in the final qualifying dash of the morning.

O’Brien Award-winning driver Sylvain Filion was making his first start up behind the gelding. The pair lined up in Post 6, and that was about as close at the rest of the field would come to them.

Filion had the Somebeachsomewhere bay out and hustling off the gate. The pair was well ahead (more than six lengths) by the time they whizzed the opening quarter-mile marker in :28. They made their way down to the half-mile pole in :56 and were more than four lengths the best at that point.

Dramatic Point continued to do the work on the front along the turn and tripped the third clock in 1:24.4.

The bay had extended his lead by the time he hit the head of the lane. He had tacked a few more lengths to his lead by the time he nailed the wire in 1:53.4. Dramatic Point’s margin of victory was eight lengths.

Dramatic Point raced four times as a freshman and took a mark of 1:54.3 over Mohawk. Monday’s mile was his second qualifying effort of the young 2018 campaign.

Dramatic Point, who was a $260,000 yearling buy from the Harrisburg sale in ’16, is co-owned by trainer Scott Horner and Peter Milligan.

The other winners during the morning session were Sheza Chunkymonkey (2:00.4), C L Art Magic (1:53.3), Scotties Spirit (1:55.2) and Sunday Afternoon (1:55).
