Things didn’t go so well for Knows Nothing in his first three starts of the 2013 campaign, but in Monday’s fourth kick at the can he produced an eye-catching triumph for trainer Jeff Gillis.

The OSS graduate front-stepped his way to a 1:51.4 victory – the quickest trotting mile of the season on Canadian soil – in Monday’s $34,000 Preferred at Woodbine Racetrack with driver Scott Zeron in tow.

Zeron got away second with Knows Nothing while last week’s Preferred winner, Watkins, marched to the lead and supplied the field with an opening quarter clocked in :26.4. E W Fisher brushed to the top in the second quarter, and hot on his heels on the way to the mid-way point was the backstretch-brushing Knows Nothing.

E W Fisher gave way to Knows Nothing at the half-mile point in :54.4, and the new leader proceeded to lead his trotting foes to the three-quarter marker in 1:23. The four-year-old son of Kadabra-Savvy Yankee drifted off the rail in the lane, but his :28.4 closing panel was good enough to earn him the neck decision over E W Fisher n 1:51.4. Star Ruffnready took home third prize.

Al Libfeld, Marvin Katz, Mac Nichol and J Gillis G Stay share ownership on the talented trotter, who is now 10-for-22 in his career. It was a new lifetime mark for the career winner of $632,496.
