Southview Spirit Fastest In Ruby Chappell

Southview Spirit, with Walter Cheverie in the bike, recorded a new lifetime mark of 1:56.2 in her division of the Ruby Chappell Memorial stake events Thursday night at the Charlottetown Driving Park Entertainment Centre

Trained by Charles McGee, the three-year-old filly paced the fastest mile out of all the divisions when Cheverie rolled her through fractions of :29.1, :58.4 and 1:28 before closing out the mile in :28.2 to take the lion’s share of the $6,000 purse for PEI partners Elwood Lawton of Stratford and Arleen Harris of Cornwall.

Southview Spirit bumped her lifetime bankroll to $44,252 with the win.

Other winners in the Ruby Chappell Stakes were Darko and Kenny Arsenault, Semjac Legacy for Darren Crowe, Longworth Midnight and Jason Hughes and Camco Wineette with Todd Trites.

Negrito took his $1,900 conditioned assignment in 1:58 for driver Gary Chappell. The Stacey Lund trainee posted his third win out of eight starts this season. Victory Creed was second for Brian Andrew with Coors Life and Sounding finishing third in the dead-heat.

Racing returns Saturday evening at 7 p.m.
