Pauly Wally and driver Wally Hennessey won the $20,000 King of Klaims Series final for pacers racing with a $16,000 tag at Tioga Downs on Friday, May 26.
Sport Bettor (Tyler Miller) was the early leader and hit the quarter in :27.3, but Pauly Wally took over as they headed for the stands for the first time. Stellar BB (Luke Hanners) went first-up as they raced around the clubhouse turn, but Pauly Wally repelled the challenge and led to the half in :56.1 and three-quarters in 1:24.3. As the field reached the stretch, it was all Pauly Wally as he won easily in 1:53.4 by four lengths. Sharp Razor (Brandon Parker) finished second and favourite Blacklight (Ridge Warren) was third.
Pauly Wally is a 10-year-old gelding by Shadow Play with six wins in 16 starts this year. Claimed in both preliminary legs of the series off runner-up finishes, the 42-time career winner was competing in the final for owner Kathleen Lauer and trainer Shawn McDonough.
Paul Wally paid $6.80 to win.
Live harness racing resumes Saturday with a nine-race card starting at 6:15 p.m.
