After just missing as the pari-mutuel choice one week ago, Intended Royalty delivered to his backers and connections with an authoritative performance in the Saturday (May 26) feature at Northside Downs.
With Redmond Doucet once again at the controls in the $1,350 Winners Over Pace, Intended Royalty was pointed to the lead off the gate and cleared over rail-sitting Burn Em Up Burr (Gerard Kennedy). The off-going (considered three seconds off by the APHRC judges) was no issue for the favourite, who confidently paced through panels of :29.2, :59.2 and 1:30.2 before powering home in :29.4 to score a decisive 2:00.1 victory. Southwind Ricardo (Mark Pezzarello) completed the exactor after a ground-saving trip while first-up challenger Burn Em Up Burr completed the top three.
A seven-year-old gelded son of No Pan Intended from the former WEG Open campaigner Renees Queen, Intended Royalty connected for his 21st lifetime win and lifted his lifetime bankroll closer to six figures at $96,847. He's trained by Randy Copley, who co-owns with Eddie Copley of Inverness.
