Beat The Drum Bests Saratoga Open

Beat The Drum overcame the outside post in the feature at Saratoga Casino Hotel Saturday, May 26, winning the $14,500 Open Pace in 1:52.2.

Jimmy Devaux pulled Beat The Drum to last early, where the seven-year-old son of Tell All sat off a :27 quarter and :56.1 half set by Carolina Beach on the lead. By three quarters in 1:24, Carolina Beach faced several challengers for the front, Beat The Drum being one as he surged wide around the final turn to slide to victory. Ideal Rocky, from first over, finished second while Carolina Beach faded to third.

Beat The Drum, claimed for $50,000 at Yonkers last month, paid $12.80 to win.

Live racing continues on Sunday, May 27 when the New York Sire Stakes kick off at the Spa with three-year-old pacing fillies taking center stage. First-race post time for the matinee is set for 12:15 p.m.
