The win streak is now three-in-a-row and counting for four-year-old trotting mare Fa Mulan, who delivered a rock solid performance to take home top prize in Monday’s feature race at Grand River Raceway
.
In rein to driver Bruce Richardson, the heavily favoured daughter of Berndt Hanover – Orianna Seelster settled into the four hole while Spirit Of Canada took the field to the quarter pole in :29.1. Richardson had Fa Mulan on the move as the field chased Spirit Of Canada to the mid-way point in :58.2.
Fa Mulan flanked Spirit Of Canada at the three-quarter pole in 1:29, and she eventually pulled away from that rival in the closing strides. She only needed a :30.4 final quarter to score the half-length decision over Spirit Of Canada, who held on bravely to finish second. Third prize went to Celtic Merchant, who edged out fourth-place finisher Gostreet, who was recently featured in an article in the Fergus-Elora News Express.
Rich Griffiths conditions Fa Mulan for owners Ming and Irene Siu of Richmond, BC. The connections watched the mare start the season 0-for-4, but she is running on all cylinders in recent weeks. The OSS graduate, who went 10-for-26 last season, boasts a $124,419 bankroll thanks to her win in the $12,800 Preferred-2 Trot.
