The four-year-old Crazed gelding Mike The Knight swooped from off the speed to land in the winner’s circle at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Wednesday (May 25) when taking the $8,800 featured trot.

Driver Anthony Haughan floated the David Holliday trainee off the wings to race fifth while odds-on favourite Renegade Gypsy jetted to a :29.2 first quarter with Dirt sitting in tow from second. With no moves to the half, Renegade Gypsy rated to a 1:01 half but soon faced pressure into the backside when Chili N Toast tipped first up out of third. Mike The Knight also angled off the pegs from the back but had four lengths to recoup on the leader to three-quarters in 1:31.1. Chili N Toast retreated around the final turn while Mike The Knight continued to advance and then swung for home with the most momentum to collar Renegade Gypsy at the line by three-quarter lengths in 2:00.3. Dirt finished third and Chili N Toast settled for fourth.

Co-owned by Holliday with Ben Holliday, Mike The Knight won his fourth race from eight starts this season and his eighth from 30 overall. He has earned $49,196 and paid $7.40 to win.
