Proven Lover used an exciting stretch drive to win the featured Preferred Pace in 2:00.1 Saturday at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Norris Rogers did the driving for owner Casey Gavin of Tignish, P.E.I. and trainer Thane Mann. Big League finished second, with his win streak ending at four. Mcapulco was third. The track was rated as sloppy with a three second variant due to rain.

Proven Lover and Rogers settled into sixth early in the race with Mcapulco and Ron Matheson cutting fractions of :29.1, 1:01 and 1:31.1. Proven Lover unleashed a :28.4 closing quarter to chase down the field and claim his first victory on P.E.I. after a stint at Yonkers Raceway in New York. The 6-5-4 triactor paid $95.10.

Driver Walter Cheverie and trainer Jonah Moase joined forces for two winners on the program. Cheverie and Moase clicked with Barrett Jackson in 2:02.1 in race 10 and came right back in the 11th with Albert Town in 2:01.4.

Driver Ron Matheson and trainer Jackie Matheson also paraded two winners on the night. The father and son team had Largo Hall on top for owners Ken and Lawson MacEachern of Charlottetown while Van Zant recorded his third score on the season for co-owner Tom Clark of Charlottetown.

Tymal Tyme, with Willie Murphy in the bike, won the trot class in 2:07.2 for Tessa MacKinnon of Souris, P.E.I.
