Posey Patch Tops Northfield Mares

Posey Patch took the $6,000 Fillies and Mares Open Pace for owner Gregory Gardner of Sheridan, Michigan in the opening race on Friday (May 24) at Northfield Park.

Trainer Dean Eckley called upon Kurt Sugg to drive. Posey Patch (Nobleland Sam-Flower Cart-Abercrombie) started from post one and sat fourth through an opening quarter of :27.3. Sugg pulled the mare first over through middle fractions of :56 and 1:24.3. She took the lead in the stretch and maintained a three-quarter-length lead to win, completing the mile in 1:56.

Completing the race were Pebble Creek, Umygeorgia Hanover, Osbornes Sweeper, and Coupon Lady.

Six-year-old Posey Patch now has 17 career wins and earnings of $46,425. She paid $5.60 to win.

Northfield Park announced the addition of a $35,000 Pick-5 total pool guarantee to Tuesday’s (May 29) program. Beginning in race three, the $35,000 Pick 5 guaranteed total pool includes a carryover of $7,042.15. Northfield’s Pick 5, Pick 4 and the Pick 3’s offer a reduced takeout rate of 14 per cent. Tuesday’s post time is 6:30 p.m.
