Undefeated Windemere Skye Super In Season's Debut

O'Brien Award finalist Windemere Skye started her sophomore season with a dominant performance to keep her career perfect through 13 races on Sunday, May 24 in the opening leg of the Atlantic Sires Stakes at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.

Windemere Skye ($2.10) continued her sensational career for driver Marc Campbell and trainer Earl Watts, winning the $29,740 Atlantic Sires Stakes "A" division for three-year-old pacing fillies. Campbell brushed the daughter of Somewhere Fancy-Howmac Missy to the lead before the opening quarter and never looked back through fractions of :28.1, :57.2 and 1:27.3 en route to the 1:55.3 victory. Alwaysinfullforce (David Dowling) chased gamely for second, finishing 1-1/2 lengths behind, while Bakers Dozen (Corey MacPherson) completed the triactor.  Windemere Farms of Springvale, P.E.I. and Matt Burke of Stratford, P.E.I. share ownership of the undefeated filly.

Watts also trained one of the "B" division winners as Starship Sundancer ($4.30) scored in 1:59.1 with Adam Merner aboard. The other $6,000 "B" divisions for fillies were won by Elm Grove Uncannie ($2.10) with Ken Murphy driving for Joe Baxter, Couldhavebeenalady ($5.50) in 1:57.3 for trainer/driver Paul Langille, and Saulsbrook Desi ($2.70) in a 1:57.2 victory for Langille and trainer Danny Romo.

The first $17,940 Atlantic Sires Stakes "A" division for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings produced an upset as Darbies Fancy ($12.20) prevailed up the inside off a pocket trip in a career-best 1:57.1. Gilles Barrieau drove the Somewhere Fancy-Darbies Destiny colt for trainer Bernard McCallum and owners Rebecca MacKenzie of Dominion, N.S., and Sandra O’Donnell of of Scotchtown, N.S.. Zero Two Sixty (Dowling) was second by a length with last year's Atlantic Breeders Crown divisional champion Sporty Anthony (Ken Murphy) third.

Windemere Britt ($8.70) captured the second colt "A" division for driver Paul Langille and trainer Kyle Williams. The gelded son of Somewhere Fancy-Hart Of Windemere controlled every station in the mile before turning back heavy favourite Woodmere Mahomes (Barrieau), winning by two lengths in a career-best 1:55.2. Goose Commander (Jason Hughes) finished third. Dads Without Abs of Fredericton, P.E.I. owns the winner.

The $6,000 "B" divisions for three-year-old pacing colts and geldings were won by Rollwiththewarden ($2.60) in 1:58.1 for trainer/driver MacPherson, Choose Me ($18.80) in upset fashion in 1:57.1 for Dowling and trainer Jennifer Doyle, and Tobins Nibbler ($4.60) in 1:57.2 for Hughes and trainer Ashley Gamester.

Live harness racing continues in P.E.I. on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. at Red Shores Charlottetown.
