Twin B Tuffenuff Wins Preferred To Cap Matheson Triple

Twin B Tuffenuff took top honours on Saturday, May 23 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park with a game victory in the $7,000 Preferred 1 Pace, headlining a trio of wins on the card for trainer Ron Matheson.

Driven by Corey MacPherson, Twin B Tuffenuff ($3.50) blasted to the lead from post four and never relinquished control through splits of :27.4, :56.4 and 1:25.2. With fellow classy veteran Bee Two Bee (Jason Hughes) charging from the pocket down the lane, Twin B Tuffenuff dug in for the 1:52.1 decision by a neck. Bee Two Bee had his seven-race win streak snapped as he made his first start since January. One Wicked Man (Kenny Arsenault) finished third.

Patrick Morris of Charlottetown, P.E.I. owns the winning 11-year-old son of Rock N Roll Heaven-In The Pink, who is now one-for-three on the year. Twin B Tuffenuff won for the 52nd time in 225 career starts and raised his earnings to $836,470.

The Matheson stable also prevailed in the seventh race as House Edge Hanover ($2.70), a five-year-old Betting Line-Hug A Dragoness gelding, delivered a sharp front-end performance in 1:53.4 for driver Gilles Barrieau and owner Everette Hanson of Maugerville, N.B. Starship Glyde (Adam Merner) closed for second by a half-length with Tony Too Tall (Brady Sweet) completing the triactor. Race 2 had an eye-catching mile for trainer Matheson, with Barrieau steering three-year-old Cattlewash-Bolero Tallia colt Cattle Call ($5.40) to a 6-1/4-length victory in 1:54 for Friends And Family Stable of Nine Mile Creek, P.E.I. Mclovin (Arsenault) closed for second over Perfection Hanover (Merner). Matheson, who went three-for-four on the day, is 16-for-33 this year for a 48.5 per cent win rate. Second in the standings, he made up no ground on leader Jennifer Doyle, who also won three races on the 13-race crd.

Doyle combined with driver David Dowling for the three scores, including back-to-back victories in Races 8 and 9 with Captainofrocknroll ($3.50) and Fast Louie ($2.40), respectively. The former, an eight-year-old son of Captaintreacherous-Rock N Roll Xample, was 2-1/4 lengths the best in 1:56.3 over Allaboutthecash (Brady Sweet), with Mappo Oriley (Marc Campbell) third. Doyle shares ownership with Max Webster Stable of Inverness, N.S. Fast Louie stopped the clock in 1:54.3 with a 1-1/2-length margin over Phil My Beer (Marc Campbell), followed by Brigus (Ken Murphy). Max Webster Stable co-owns the winning Sweet Lou-Lorrie Please five-year-old with Dowling and Doyle of Stratford, P.E.I. and Ryan McLaughlin of Cornwall, P.E.I. The Doyle-Dowling duo closed out the card as Captain Highliner ($13.60) scored in 1:54.4 for Max Webster Stable. The Captain Crunch-Rockn Highland gelding rallied to a length win over Reggie The Fourth (Marc Campbell), with Steamboat Springs (Merner) third. Doyle has 22 wins at Charlottetown this meet and is clicking at 22.9 per cent overall.

Marc Campbell made four trips to the winner’s circle, including a pair of wins for trainer Tom Weatherbie. His Weatherbie-trained winners were Fly Bulldog Fly ($2.70) in a 1:58.4 maiden-breaking score in the first race and Tahoe Seelster ($3.20) in 1:56.1 in the third. La Barbe ($4.60) was another Campbell-driven winner in the fourth race for trainer Taylor Doyle, and the reinsman completed his grand slam with a victory by Pauls Crown ($5.20) for trainer Stanley Harper in 1:57 in Race 10.

Live racing continues on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Red Shores Summerside with a card featuring the Atlantic Sires Stakes for three-year-old pacers.
