This year, The Raceway at Western Fair District has made changes to its marquee event – the newly-rebranded Camluck Classic – which will headline a strong Saturday (May 26) program at the London, Ont. oval. The race has traditionally been contested during a Friday evening, but Western Fair officials have indicated that there is also a specific reason why it will take place on Saturday this year.
In speaking with Morris Dalla Costa for a piece in The London Free Press, the track’s general manager, Greg Blanchard, explained that The Raceway at Western Fair District is attempting to attract Down Under wagering on the $150,000 invitational pace.
“It (the switch from Friday to Saturday) gave us the opportunity to get the race into the Down Under market in Australia and New Zealand,” said Blanchard. “Their horse racing network is planning to take the Camluck Classic as part of their coverage. For some reason the timing on a Friday night doesn’t allow it, but having it on Saturday night with the time difference allows that.”
The Camluck Classic has been carded as the final dash on the program (Race 12), which has an estimated post time of 11:10 p.m. (EDT). The stakes-filled card will sees its first race roll behind the starter at 6:55 p.m. For a free, printable program for the Saturday card, courtesy of TrackIT, click here.
