Trotting fillies of the three-year-old variety flocked to Windsor Raceway on Sunday evening to contest the lone
division of the Trillium Series, which offered a flashy purse of $70,007.
Butana, a homebred daughter of Angus Hall - Seductive, got the job done for the father and son duo of owner/breeder/trainer Charalambos Christoforou and driver Chris Christoforou. The lightly raced miss halted the teletimer in 1:57.2.
Butana, who was sent off as the 3/5 choice in the 10-filly affair, was parked by Daylon Mystique to the quarter pole in :28.3 before being released to the front. Once in command she chopped out middle splits of :57.3 and 1:27.3 before coming under pressure from Friendly Amigo.
That rival applied plenty of heat to the leader before leveling off in deep stretch. Butane drew clear in the closing strides to win over Friendly Amigo. Third prize went to Daylon Mystique.
After failing to hit the board in two starts as a rookie, Butana has quickly figured things out this season for her connections. She is four starts into her sophomore campaign, and she has already picked up three wins along the way. Sunday’s $35,004 paycheque bumped her lifetime earnings to $63,504.
