Late on Friday afternoon (May 23), the Ontario Racing Commission issued a pair of releases in regard to 2014 race dates for the Fort Erie Race Track for Thoroughbreds and Ajax Downs for Quarter Horses.
The first ORC release states that the commission has approved 37 dates of live racing to take place at Fort Erie this season. To view a 2014 race date calendar for Fort Erie, click here. Aggrieved parties have the right to appeal the ORC director’s decision to the commission.
The second ORC release states that officials from both the Fort Erie Race Track and Ajax Downs had submitted applications to vary their track’s live race-date calendar. The ORC director has approved both applications for variance; and, therefore, race date calendars are approved as submitted, conditional upon the racetrack operators’ execution of a ‘FAR Support’ funding agreement under the Horse Racing Partnership Program or alternatively demonstrating the racetrack’s financial ability to conduct this calendar of live race dates (the ORC’s reasons for decision are attached to the release). Aggrieved parties have the right to appeal the ORC director’s decision to the commission.
