"One night I stayed late at the simulcast room back in LA and I saw a shot from the car looking back at the trotters and I said that's the coolest shot ever -- why hasn't anybody ever done a movie about those guys? So I started to write the script and here we are."

Actor and director Emilio Estevez discussed his new harness racing movie Johnny Longshot during an interview with Sam McKee for Meadowlands Racetrack's In The Sulky segment while visiting the track this past weekend. Estevez is a lifelong fan of horse racing thanks in part to his father, actor Martin Sheen.

"I've been a racing fan my whole life. My dad used to take me to the track when I was a kid, and then I became a fan on my own."

Estevez shared his passion for racing, thoughts on why he's making the movie, and his plans to actually learn how to drive standardbred racehorses.
