JK Special will look to deliver from Post 2 as the favourite in Thursday’s $2,200 Open Mares feature at Red Shores Charlottetown.

The top pacing mares on the east coast will line up in Race 7 on the power-packed 12-dash program which holds a 7:00 p.m. first-race post time.

JK Special was a winner last week for driver Walter Cheverie and owner-trainer Joe Smallwood, while General Lucky Percy (Ron Matheson) has the rail for trainer Jackie Matheson and owners Jodilyn Shepherd and Jack Brown. Other entries include Too Ideal (Mark Bradley), Private Joke (Gary Chappell), Dreaming (Norman Myers), Mylittlerebel (Brian MacPhee) and Block Party (Jason Hughes).

The $1,800 Open Trot goes postward in Race 4 with Caliban Hanover looking for a repeat of last week from Post 6 for trainer-driver Ron Gass and owner Wendell MacDonald. Zip The Lip is the morning-line favourite from Post 7 with MacPhee in the bike for trainer Donald Sweet and owner Melvin Willis. Also in the field is Dee Dee Pucker (Hughes), Saulsbrook Balance (Willie Murphy), Buckling Banbury (Corey MacPherson), Honeymoonisover (Brian Andrew), Delta Dental (Cheverie), and Diamond Mine (Jack Panting).

A tough field of pacers will compete in Race 12 as Carnivore drops out of the preferred class but draws Post 8 in the $1,850 event. The seven-year-old Real Desire stallion will have Chappell in the bike for trainer Earl Watts and owner Windemere Farms. Camcun (Kenny Arsenault) has the rail in the speedy affair. Other horses are Oakrock Almight (Matheson), Artners In Crime (Brodie MacPhee), Brief Bliss (Stephen Quinn), Machinthesand (Bradley), Pembroke Fella (Brian MacPhee), and Capitalism (Hughes).

Island racing also has cards Saturday night in Charlottetown and Sunday for the opening race card of Red Shores Summerside.
