Ginormous Night For Giroux

Horses trained by Sebastien Giroux deserve respect every time they swing behind the starting gate, and bettors that factored that into their handicapping on Sunday at Rideau Carleton Raceway likely needed a wheelbarrow

to tote home their winnings.

Giroux sent out six winners over the course of the 15-race card, and it all started when Gord Brown guided the Giroux-trained Quintal Bayama to a 1:55.3 triumph in Race 3. Guy Gagnon reined in Giroux’s next two winners thanks to scores with Sunset Art (1:55) in Race 8 and Delta Dental (1:59.1) in Race 9.

Brown clicked with Armbro Carruthers (1:54) in Race 10 before Gagnon piloted Armadilo (1:54.2) to an easy victory in Race 11. Gagnon also guided Engineered Right (1:56.4) to an easy tally in Race 14, thus completing Giroux’s six-win night at the office.

Giroux started the night sitting fourth in Rideau’s trainers’ standings, but by the time the track lights were turned off he found himself tied for second with trainer Colin Johnson. Both conditioners are chasing Jamie Copley, who leads all Rideau conditioners.

With 704 lifetime wins and more than $3-million in lifetime earnings, Giroux is closing in on $200,000 in seasonal earnings. His UDR of .393 is almost twenty points higher than it was last season (.375). He has a career UDR of .360 – a number that would make any batting coach drool.
