Playful Dancer became North America's first two-year-old qualifying winner in 2026 on Thursday, May 21 at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
The son of McWicked showcased both speed and professionalism in his first on-track appearance, winning in 2:03.2 by nearly 10 lengths with a :29.4 final quarter after overtaking his stablemate, the unraced three-year-old filly Shirley U Jest.
Playful Dancer is trained and driven by Natasha Day and is owned by Doug Millard of Woodstock, Ont.
Purchased for $19,000 at the 2025 London Classic Yearling Sale, Playful Dancer is the third foal out of Smiling Dialing, a half sister to "Canada’s Pacing Queen" So Much More. His only living older sibling, Smiling Dancer, has already earned nearly $70,000 in 19 career starts and holds a lifetime mark of 1:52 taken at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Day has expressed that she is hopeful the colt will be ready to tackle some of the first Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots races.
