'Lorrie' Sharp Off The Bench; Five For Palone

Lorrie Please, who hadn’t raced in nearly a month, surged to an early lead and easily deflected every challenge as she captured Friday’s $22,500 Filly & Mare Not Listed Preferred/Preferred Handicap Pace

at The Meadows.

Although she was a fading seventh in her April 22 outing and scratched sick two weeks later, Lorrie Please returned to the racing wars with the addition of Lasix. The four-year-old daughter of Western Ideal-National Gallery was vastly improved, sailing to victory for Eric Ledford in a career-best 1:52.1. The pocket-sitting Cams Van Go was second, one and a half lengths back, with 7-5 favourite Jans Luck third.

Michael Hall trains Lorrie Please, who boosted her lifetime bankroll north of $100,000, for Allen Kaplan and Iris Kaplan of New York and David Sheib of Florida.

Dave Palone drove five winners — three for trainer Ron Burke, who had a great night north of the border sweeping the Molson Pace eliminations at Western Fair Raceway with Atochia and Foiled Again. Brett Miller drove four winners on the 15-race card.
