Canadian-born Hall of Fame horseman Clint Galbraith is in intensive care after suffering a head injury on Sunday, May 16
while unloading a horse at his farm in Scottsville, N.Y.
According to his wife, Barb, Galbraith was unloading the homebred pacer Kashability when the horse startled and turned quickly into the 72-year-old, bumping him with his shoulder and knocking him backward. Galbraith was knocked unconscious when he hit his head.
Galbraith was taken to Strong Hospital in Rochester, N.Y., where he was placed in an induced coma. Throughout the week, he was awakened every hour to a semi-conscious state and asked to move his fingers and toes, but has been lucid and conscious since Thursday.
“He’s recuperating well and we thank all the horsemen for their support,” Barb said. “My son and daughter have mega-chipped-in and everybody has really come to bat for the man.”
Galbraith and his wife currently train 25 head at their Rodney Farms in New York. On Sunday, Kashability had just paced to a lifetime-best 1:52.2 at Tioga Downs before the accident.
Galbraith is most famous for training the immortal pacer Niatross, and was inducted into the Living Hall of Fame in 1989.
Please join SC in wishing Clint Galbraith a full recovery.
