Oatmeister Takes Top Trot

After falling more than five lengths behind, Oatmeister unleashed his patented late charge that carried him to a narrow victory in Thursday’s $25,000 Preferred Handicap Trot

at The Meadows.

Prism K was strong on the lead but under constant pressure, giving Oatmeister the opening he needed. Trainer/driver Ed Hensley tipped him off the pylons at the half for a sustained bid that was just good enough. He edged the game Prism K by a nose in 1:54.1, with Primo Spur third.

It was one of four winning drives on the 16-race card for Hensley. Bill Bercury of Slippery Rock, PA owns Oatmeister, a seven-year-old gelded son of Conway Hall-Orelle Hanover. The lion’s share of the purse pushed the trotter’s career bankroll over $391,000.
