Heza Handy Man Upsets In London Preferred Pace

Heza Handy Man posted a hefty upset in the $11,600 Preferred Handicap Pace at The Raceway at Western Fair District on Monday, May 20 as he won as the longest shot on the board at 23-1 odds.

Brett MacDonald and the Michael Horner trainee got away fifth from post five as the first panel clicked in :28. Hollys Treasure (Dan Clements) initiated a first-over bid through the :57.4 half and Heza Handy Man followed his lead. Heza Handy Man continued in fourth on the outside through the three-quarters in 1:25.4 and going into the final turn. Heza Handy Man battled against the favourite, Arties Ideal (Samuel Fillion), down the stretch. At the wire, Heza Handy Man prevailed by a half length in 1:55. Drinkin Buddy (Garrett Rooney) completed the triactor.

Mark Horner owns the seven-year-old gelding. Heza Handy Man (Big Jim - Cassidy Seelster) is a winner of five races from 18 starts this year and 32 races from 131 career starts. He has banked $173,823. At odds of 23-1, he returned $47.10 to his backers.

R Royal Port made every pole a winning one en route to victory in the $11,600 Preferred Trot.

Travis Henry and the Gerard Demers student maintained a 1-1/2-length lead through panels in :27.3, :58 and 1:27.2 before winning by two lengths in 1:58. Treasured Tee (Scott Young) and Scene A Magician (Rooney) rounded out the top three.

La Ferme Tag Inc. owns the five-year-old gelded son of Archangel out of the Muscle Mass mare World Class Izzy. R Royal Port won his sixth race from 15 starts this year and eighth career tally. In 50 lifetime starts, he has banked $92,690. R Royal Port paid $6.10 to win at 2-1 odds.
