Soccer Hanover ($3.70) kicked home from the pocket in the nick of time, collaring pacesetter Screen Test by a neck in the $2,600 top-level pace at Red Shores Summerside on a rain-soaked Monday afternoon (May 20).
The five-year-old Dragon Again gelding and driver David Dowling couldn't have found the pocket any easier from post 2, settling behind the pole-sitting Screen Test (Corey MacPherson) and drafting through splits of :29.4, 1:00.1 and 1:30.1 over sloppy going. After enjoying a clear tracking trip to the top of the stretch, Soccer Hanover emerged to engage Screen Test and stuck a neck in front to prevail in 2:00. Red Magician (Adam Merner) checked in third.
Leith Waite owns and trains eight-time winner Soccer Hanover. For Dowling, the win was one of three on the nine-race card.
