On Monday, May 19, John Dayton's Just A Jolt ($3.80, Victor Kirby) reset the Harrington Raceway track record for four-year-old pacing geldings with a 1:50.3 triumph in the $17,000 Open Pace.
The four-year-old Village Jolt gelding was sent for the lead approaching the quarter-mile after being released by last week’s winner, Rock On Moe, to an opening quarter of :27.
With a parked Delaware Hanover on the outside for the entire mile, Just A Jolt marched on to the half mile in :55.1 and three-quarters in 1:23.3. Rock On Moe was unable to reel in Just A Jolt through a 27-second final panel, with the latter prevailing by a length. EZ Noah, who was there-wide after the half-mile, was a game third.
Trained by Jim King Jr., it was the eighth win of the year for Just A Jolt, and fourth already in five starts this year at Harrington. Just A Jolt broke his own four-year-old track record, which was co-held by Western Ace (1:51.1).
Ross Wolfenden recorded a driving triple. A host of drivers had driving doubles including Kirby, Bret Brittingham, Montrell Teague, Allan Davis and Anthony Morgan.
