Maritimer returned to the top pacing ranks at Truro Raceway on Sunday afternoon and wore down the popular Oakmont for the one length victory
.
In the featured $1,225 Winners Over Pace, Maritimer had only the breaker, Bo Butler, beaten after leaving from the outside starting spot in the field scratched down to seven, but driver Clare MacDonald sent the four-year-old son of Full Scholarship first over at the halfway mark and pushed ahead of the pacesetting Oakmont and Danny Romo down the stretch to score in 1:57.2. Pocket-sitter St Lads Dagwood and Ernest Laffin followed for third.
The 2-1 second choice paid $6.30 to win. The Nicholas White trainee, who finished third in the top class two weeks ago and was victorious the previous week, notched win number 13 in his career and bumped his bankroll to $46,402. He is owned by Barbara Pearl of Hants Co, N.S.
Earlier on the card in the eighth race, an accident occurred when the Ryan Ellis-driven Follow The Arrows broke stride at the start of the race and hooked wheels with Wildcat Mcdonnell and Clayton Stevens. When the pair unhooked wheels, Wildcat Mcdonnell ran into Phightenphilly unseating his driver Ernest Laffin. Reports from Truro indicate serious injuries were avoided and all drivers returned to action in the subsequent races.
