After going home empty handed in back-to-back starts at the Preferred level, Peenie responded with an authoritative score in Thursday’s $13,000 Preferred at Rideau

Carleton Raceway.

Stephane Gendron, who enjoyed a four-win performance on the card, quarter pole-moved Peenie to the engine after Best Show In Town supplied the field with an opening quarter in :26.3. Peenie hammered out middle splits of :55.4 and 1:23.4 before stepping home in :28.4 to win by five lengths in 1:52.3. Imjustalittleguy and Best Show In Town dead heated for the place award behind the 1-2 favourite.

Trainer Colin Johnson shares ownership on the six-year-old son of Real Artist with Ecurie JGV Enrg of Laval, QC. The 33-time winner is now 4-for-13 this season, and he has added more than $47,000 to his lifetime bankroll which now stands at $401,108.

The Thursday card was also kind to trainer Sebastien Giroux, who celebrated a three-win performance on the 15-race program. Giroux started the card holding down the fourth spot in Rideau’s trainers’ standings, and his win total climbed to 33 for the season after he clicked with Rainmaker (1:58.2), Lukes Devon (1:59) and SOS Poweroflove (1:57.2).

Giroux is just two wins away from 700 lifetime victories, and the productive night helped push his lifetime earnings over $3 million.
