Just a little over $6,000 shy of his $120 million in career earnings milestone, Chris Christoforou achieved the feat in the Thursday, May 2 card opener at Woodbine Mohawk Park. The Cambellville, Ont. driver piloted Finite to victory in a $17,000 conditioned trot; though, unlike the name suggests, Christoforou's resume is limitless.
Devils Kiss and Louis-Philippe Roy took the early lead from post 10 to designate themselves as the pacesetters for the mile. Christoforou and Finite settled in for the pocket ride through panels in :28.1, :58.1 and 1:27.2. Up the backstretch, Finite tipped to the outside and Stormont Happy Day (Sylvain Filion) followed his lead from third. The trio of trotters battled towards the wire and in the photo for the finish, Finite came out on top by three-quarters of a length in 1:54.4. Stormont Happy Day took second and Devils Kiss completed the triactor.
Clark Beelby trains the sophomore Resolve-Awesome Chrissy colt for Coyote Wynd Farms. Finite ($3.60) earned his first career triumph in 10 attempts.
Christoforou has 6,795 career triumphs to go along with his $120 million in earnings. He was inducted into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame (CHRHF) as part of the Class of 2023 last August. A four-time O'Brien Award winner as Canada's Driver of the Year, Christoforou's driving resume is lengthy with accolades including becoming the second youngest driver to win a Breeders Crown race and 10 Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final victories.
In race nine, Winning Alliance (Chapter Seven-Perfect Alliance) kept her winning streak alive with Todd Ratchford in the bike for trainer Matt Bax and owners Bax Stable and Glengate Farms. The sophomore filly moved her streak to five straight wins to maintain her perfect season after winning by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:54.1. She paid $3.20 to win.
