Harold ‘Sonny’ Winslow of Clinton, N.Y. captured the $20,000 grand prize in the 2017 BetAmerica World Harness Handicapping Championship on Saturday, April 29 at Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment.

Winslow finished the tournament with a $1,809 bankroll to top the field of 92 players from across North America who competed for $50,000 in prize money. Winslow won his spot in the Monticello Qualifier.

"Congratulations to Harold Winslow for capturing this year’s Championship! We would like to thank everyone that participated in this year’s BetAmerica World Harness Handicapping Championship," said Jason Settlemoir, COO and general manager of Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment. The BetAmerica WHHC contest format required contestants to bet 10 races: six Meadowlands races of their choice, plus one mandatory race each from Hoosier Park, Buffalo, Mohawk and Meadowlands racetracks. Bets had to meet a $30 minimum, $100 maximum per race. Contestants could only bet one horse per race and wagers could either be win, place, show or a combination of the three.

Winslow cashed on four of his ten bets and had an early $784 score with $40 to win on Cherokee Ranger in Race 5 at the Meadowlands. His final play of the night came in Race 9 at the Meadowlands with a $100 win bet on Quick Asa Trick N. It netted him $680 and a final bankroll of $1,809; $500 more than his next nearest competitor.

In addition to the Meadowlands, the following partner outlets sent players to compete in the 2017 BetAmerica WHHC: USTA, BetAmerica.com, Monticello, Buffalo Raceway, Vernon Downs, Tioga Downs, Hoosier Park, Plainridge, Scioto, Northville Downs and Standardbred Canada.
