'Abelard' Prevails In Top Philly Pace

Abelard Hanover matched his lifetime mark of 1:49.2 in Saturday's $30,000 Winners Over Pace at Harrah's Philadelphia, scoring off a pocket trip behind favourite Rockincam.

Driver Frank Milby sent Abelard Hanover to the lead from post three into a :26.3 opening panel, but settled for a pocket ride behind the advancing Rockincam and Eric Goodell. The 1-2 bettors' choice cleared to command past the quarter pole and carved out middle fractions of :54.3 and 1:22 before being overtaken in the stretch by Abelard Hanover, who used a :27.1 final frame to come on for the one length victory. Rockincam held onto third as Fancyfreeshark and Jonathan Roberts closed up the pylons off a three-hole trip.

Abelard Hanover paid $13.60 to win as the 5-1 third choice in the field scratched down to seven with We Will See sick. He's now won half of his 12 seasonal starts and has already surpassed the $100,000 earnings mark this year.

Marvin Callahan trains the five-year-old Rocknroll Hanover gelding for owners Alvin Callahan, Suzanne Waskey, and Pamela Price.

Driver George Napolitano Jr. dominated the 14-race card scoring wins in seven dashes. Among his winners were a pair of Matias Ruiz trainees and two of Ron Burke's three victors.
