Dewey Arnold Delivers In Vernon Open

Veteran trotter Dewey Arnold captured the featured $11,806 Open Trot at Vernon Downs on Saturday, May 17.

Century Invader (Leon Bailey) and Dewey Arnold (Ron Harp) battled all the way to the quarter.  Dewey Arnold got there first in :28, then fronted the field through middle panels of :57 and 1:25.4.  As they reached the stretch, Century Invader and Joxter (Dan Daley) challenged for the lead but Dewey Arnold had plenty in the tank and won in 1:56. Century Invader and Joxter completed the top trio.

Owned by Philip Hale and trainer David Dewhurst, Dewey Arnold ($3.00) is a seven-year-old gelding by Deweycheatumnhowe. Notching his fourth win this season and second consecutive, the half millionaire now has 39 career victories. 

Joe Nassimos and Dylan Huckabone-Miller had driving-training doubles, while Justin Huckabone had a driving double.

Vernon Downs returns to live racing on Friday, May 23 with a first post time of 5:05 p.m.
