Betterontheisland posted the fastest time in any of the $18,000 condition classes at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Thursday (May 18), clicking off her own career best time.
James MacDonald was in the bike for trainer Brian Scott as he went to the gate as second choice with Betterontheisland from post six. MacDonald tucked into second behind Doug McNair and Moonstruck as the gate pulled away. Betterontheisland rode the pocket trip through fractions of :28, :57.1 and 1:25.4 before challenging Moonstruck in the stretch. It came down to the wire as Betterontheisland won by a neck in 1:52.4. Favoured All Of Me (Bob McClure) was third. Betterontheisland paid $8.30 to win.
Betterontheisland is a three-year-old daughter of Betterthancheddar, owned by Brian Scott and Amy Griffin. Of her six career wins, four trips to the winner's circle have been made in four starts this year.
