After missing by a nose after enduring a rugged trip in last week’s feature race at Grand River Raceway, Chevron Hanover was treated to a sweet trip in Tuesday’s main event and he took full advantage of it
.
With Stuart Sowerby at the lines behind the Brian Lee trainee, Chevron Hanover followed cover and hauled down pacesetter Risky Rich to take home the lion’s share of the $10,500 purse.
Risky Rich whacked out wild fractions of :27, :55.2 and 1:24.4 before coughing up the lead to Chevron Hanover, who used a :29.2 to pull off the 6-1 upset in 1:55. Monster In Law, who was sent off as the even-money choice, closed well to finish second with Risky Rich holding on for third prize in the six-horse affair.
The seven-year-old son of Astreos now sports a 3-1-1 record in his first 10 starts of the season for Shaws Creek Stable of Orangeville, ON. To date, the pacer has visited victory lane 22 times while banking in excess of $220,000.
