Astronomical made his 2009 debut a domineering one for trainer Dr. Ian Moore during Monday morning’s qualifying session at Charlottetown Driving Park
.
The seven-year-old son of Astreos left from Post 5 in the third qualifier with Moore in tow and led every step of the way while extending his lead to 26 lengths. He tripped the teletimer in 1:57.2.
Astronomical is a 35-time winner who has banked $754,958 in his career for Moore, William Shearer of Halifax, N.S. and R G McGroup Ltd. of Bathurst, N.B.
The other qualifying winners were Cr Super Sweep (Leslie Waite/Leith Waite, 2:09.1) and Jsr Mr Big (Leslie Waite/Earl Watts, 2:04).
