Trailing by nine lengths and with excess cover in front of him, Dont Take My Keys took matters into his own hands, circling the field three-wide to capture Wednesday’s feature at The Meadows, a $12,100 conditioned trot.
Winning driver Hunter Myers knew he might never get a chance fourth-over to unleash Dont Take My Keys, so he opted to show racetrack then and there to the five-year-old Uncle Peter-Designated Driver gelding. Dont Take My Keys responded with a powerful brush that carried him to victory in 1:55.2, two lengths better than The Funk, with Stickler Hanover third.
Andy Rickert trains the winner for Nichole Stahl and Mary Stucky.
Jeremy Indof and Mike Wilder joined trainer Randy Bendis with two wins on the 12-race card.
Live harness racing at The Meadows continues Thursday when the 12-race program features a pair of carryovers: $1,321.91 in the Early Pentafecta (Race 4), $601.67 in the Pick 5 (Race 8). First post is 12:45 p.m.
