Stash The Cookies Scores At Century

The six-year-old Sunfire Blue Chip mare Stash The Cookies swooped to the lead in the final circuit and stormed clear to win the $10,500 Open Pace on Tuesday (May 17) at Century Downs.

Tiempo Hanover, the 4-5 favourite, took the lead to a :28.1 first quarter and maintained control under minimal pressure to a :57.2 half. Driver Phil Giesbrecht made his move with Stash The Cookies into the backstretch and grabbed the lead with ease from Tiempo Hanover to three-quarters in 1:25.2. Opening three lengths to the final turn, Stash The Cookies cruised home to win by 5-1/4 lengths in 1:54 over Crackle N Burn. Munchie Chris closed for third and Outlaw Gunsablazin took fourth.

Co-owned by trainer Chris Lancaster with Derek Gilbert, Stash The Cookies won her fourth race from 10 starts this season and her 14th from 53 overall, earning $157,449. She paid $5.70 to win.

Later in the card, Tyson Jacoby collected his first training victory in just his second start. He steered his pupil Somepeopleneedtold ($6.60) to an off-the-pace victory in 1:58 in a $7,800 conditioned pace. As a driver, Jacoby has five wins to his name from 39 starts and won his first race on March 12 at Century Downs.
