Trainer-driver Lorne House seized the lead with Pembrook Legacy N early and finished the job at odds of 14-1 with a 1:53.3 win in the $13,000 Horses & Geldings Preferred 2 Pace on Tuesday (May 17) at The Raceway at Western Fair District.

Leaving from post 6, Pembrook Legacy N posted a :27.1 first quarter on the point and coasted under minimal pressure while Rockin In Heaven pulled and raced stalled on the rim into a :56 half. Pembrook Legacy N continued with no foes in sight to three-quarters in 1:24.1 but had a challenger looming when Yacht Seelster swung three wide to take aim at the leader. Yacht Seelster dug into the pacesetter through the lane, but Pembrook Legacy N maintained a head advantage to the line to win. Clever Character rode the pocket for third and Beachin Lindy lunged from last for fourth.

A nine-year-old gelding by Bettors Delight, Pembrook Legacy N won his third race in nine starts this season and his 13th in 54 overall. Sam Taylor owns the winner of $105,838 who paid $31.20 to win.

Catch An Ace also nailed a double-digit win in the co-featured event on the card, the $12,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 & 3 Handicap Pace. The seven-year-old Bettors Delight mare protected the pylons to sit the pocket behind 5-2 favourite Saulsbrook Jessie through fractions of :28, :57.2 and 1:26.1. A failed first-over bid from Laila Blue opened a path rounding the bottom corner for Austin Sorrie to slip Catch An Ace out of the pocket and slide by Saulsbrook Jessie to win by a length in 1:55.2. Kickin Cowgirl closed to finish third with So Frisky rallying for fourth.

Owned and trained by Rachel Andrew, Catch An Ace won her third race from 15 starts this season and her 21st from 114 overall. She has banked $302,559 and paid $22.20 to win.

Rachel Andrew also collected a win in the $10,500 Horses & Geldings Preferred 3 Pace with J J Powerball, who posted a 1:55.4 win. Austin Sorrie sat fourth with the seven-year-old Image Of Dawn gelding to a :27.4 first quarter before pulling first over and grinding to challenge pacesetter Jaydens Place into a :57.3 half and through three-quarters in 1:26.2. Jaydens Place battled back at the pylons around the final turn but faltered in the lane as J J Powerball withstood a late drive from Modern Writer coming off cover to hold the victory by a neck. Casimir Richie P closed from third over for third while Jaydens Place settled for fourth.

Also owned by Andrew, J J Powerball won his third race from 14 starts this season and his 21st from 112 overall. He has earned $139,268 and paid $15.60 to win.
