Heres The Magic kept his rivals at bay to earn his second victory this month in the $6,950 Winners Over Handicap Trot at Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday night, May 15.
A winner in the top trotting class on May 1, Heres The Magic was back in the spotlight following a third-place effort last weekend. Driver Gord Brown used his successful front-end tactics from two weeks ago, leaving from post four once again.
Heres The Magic led the field through panels of :28.2, :57.4 and 1:28.1 while rebuffing an early challenge from Raising Richard (Rheo Filion) and then Michelangelo (Richard Simard). In the stretch, the 8-5 second choice to last week's winner Unabating -- who finished a non-threatening sixth from third over -- held off the re-rallying Raising Richard, who had ducked into the pocket after his early bid and missed by just a neck in the passing lane. Heres The Magic prevailed over Raising Richard in 1:58 flat. Michelangelo finished two and a half lengths behind in third. Four Starz Speed (Pierre Desjardin) was fourth after fanning off cover and 86-1 longshot Tymal Colossus (Clarke Steacy) earned the final paycheque in fifth.
Heres The Magic now has five wins from 13 starts this year and earnings of $22,835. Blake Curran trains and co-owns the seven-year-old Kadabra gelding with Jason Jamieson of Perth, Ont.
The feature win completed a driving double on the Sunday card for Brown.
