Sylvain Filion, Canada’s Driver of the Year for 2012, will be taking part in Toronto Horse Day at the Horse Palace at Exhibition Place in Toronto on Saturday, June 1.

Horse Day, scheduled from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. will feature breed and discipline demonstrations, interactive exhibits, equine games and activities, special guests and much more. There’s something for everyone in the family and it’s free.

Filion will be on hand from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with his O’Brien Award trophy to autograph photos and talk to the public about what it takes to be a successful harness driver.

The horse racing industry will be well represented. Along with Sylvain Filion, Trot 4 Kids and the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame will also have a presence at the event. Hall of Fame jockey Sandy Hawley will be in attendance and be accompanied by the historic Queen’s Plate trophy. Horse racing fans will also enjoy a special Northern Dancer exhibit featuring memorabilia from the legendary Canadian thoroughbred.

The Ontario Equestrian Federation is the host of Toronto Horse Day and wants to reach out to aspiring riders, drivers and handlers and help them turn an interest into a lifetime passion.

Now in its fifth year, Ontario Horse Day is a province-wide initiative that was started by the Ontario Equestrian Federation to introduce the public to horses in a safe, fun environment. The OEF encourages clubs and stables across the province to mark the day by hosting their own activities that coincide with official events in Toronto and Ottawa.
