Chewey went wire-to-wire to deliver on his pari-mutuel promise in the featured $11,000 Preferred 2 Trot at Grand River Raceway on Wednesday

. The victory was the 15th lifetime for the Trainforthefuture-Marie Adonno gelding.

Driven by Robert Shepherd, the 6-5 favourite cleared to command over insider Now You See Him (James MacDonald) into the backstretch and reached the opening quarter pole in :28.1. He proceeded to lead the field of seven past the half in :59.2 and down the backside again with Zorgwijk Jock (Jason Brewer) applying first over pressure before dropping back into the two-hole at the 1:28.3 three-quarters mark. Zorgwijk Jock pulled back out down the stretch, but ran out of racetrack as Chewey hit the wire first in 1:58.4 with a half-length to spare. Defy Time (Scott Coulter) finished three lengths behind in third after tracking the runner-up's cover.

Chewey paid $4.70 to win. The time of the mile was just one-fifth of a second off the trotter's lifetime mark.

The six-year-old has now hit the board in 10 of his 13 starts this year (five wins) while banking $43,130 for trainer Edward Galinski and lessee Kingfisher Farm of Seneca, Ont.
