Connected Yankee added his name to the track record board at Dresden Raceway on Sunday's opening day
program thanks to his 1:59.1 score in a $7,500 conditioned event.
The performance shaved one-fifth of a second off Ozzie In Action’s former record of 1:59.2 for older male trotters. That record was established on July 28, 2002.
Connected Yankee was treated to a two-hole trip for the majority of Sunday’s assignment, and when driver Brad Forward called on the eight-year-old son of Yankee Paco for speed he complied. The gelding trotted home in :30 seconds to win by 3-3/4 lengths in 1:59.1.
Sent off as the 3/5 favourite in the trotting tilt for owner William Hood of Windsor, ON, Connected Yankee improved his 2010 record to 5-1-5 from just 14 trips behind the starting gate for trainer Pereira. The classy campaigner has banked more than $294,000 to date.
