R Lil King Pockets Another Preferred

After winning the Preferred 2 Pace at Hiawatha Horse Park over an off track one week ago, R Lil King and driver Don Rankin Jr. returned to win this week's $10,000 event in better conditions on Saturday night

Trainer Rod Boyd and the Feet First Stable’s R Lil King sped off the gate from Post 2 during a :27.4 first quarter before giving way to Lightning Luck (Mark Williams). The new leader took the field to the half in :56.2 and three-quarters in 1:24.1 with P J Lucky (Terry Kerr) challenging on the outside, but it was R Lil King, who prevailed off a two-hole trip, pacing home in :28.2. R Lil King was a two-length winner in 1:53 with Donegal Mac (Brad Forward) coming on for second and P J Lucky finishing third.

R Lil King paid $7.70 to win as the second choice in the field reduced to eight after the scratch of Mcrileymac. The five-year-old gelded son of Western Maverick-Elle Getty has won three of his nine starts this year and has earned $19,300. Lifetime, he has posed for 15 win photos and has banked $173,933.
