Ryan Holliday put the pedal to the metal early with Casino Classic in Monday’s $10,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 for pacers, and the Robert Manders trainee rolled to a popular victory.
Casino Classic shot to the top from Post 4 and carved out panels of :27.4, :57.2 and 1:26 before summoning up a :29.3 kicker en route to besting Howmacfiesty by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:55.3. SR Beach Babe took home the show dough.
Sent off as the 6-5 favourite, the four-year-old daughter of Classic Card Shark-Art Alliance improved this year’s record to 4-4-6 from 17 starts with the victory. The 13-time winner has banked more than $92,000 to date for Richard and Keith Manders of Watford, Ont.
Bad Night Mare used the same approach to capture the $8,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 for pacers. Alfie Carroll hustled her through fractions of :28.2, :58.1 and 1:27 before jetting home in :29.3 to win by three-quarters of a length over Top Royal in 1:56.3. Miss Brandi K rounded out the Trifecta ticket.
Sent off as the even-money choice, the Richard Moreau-trained seven-year-old daughter of Artistic Fella-Be Bad Girl made it back-to-back wins for owner Michael Goldberg of Toronto, Ont. The 21-time winner is 3-for-17 this season. She’s quickly closing in on $250,000 in career earnings.
